Connect your AI
You add calories.food once as a connector, sign in with your email, and then log meals by chatting.
Connector URL
https://api.calories.food/mcp
Which AI app should I use?
Claude Recommended
Logs from your phone. Works on the web, desktop and in the iPhone and Android apps, anywhere Claude is available. Custom connectors may depend on your plan.
ChatGPT Web only
Needs Developer mode on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Education. OpenAI supports it on chatgpt.com, not reliably in the phone app. ChatGPT asks you to confirm each change before it's saved.
Gemini US only
Google offers custom apps only in the US, in English, for people 18 or over with a personal Google Account. Elsewhere, Gemini may show calories.food as connected but never use it.
Claude
- On claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app, open Settings → Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector. Name it calories.food and paste the connector URL above.
- Click Connect. A sign-in page opens: enter your email, then the 6-digit code we send you.
- In a chat, send a food photo and say "log this".
Connectors you add on the web also work in the Claude mobile app, so you can snap meals from your phone. If you don't see the option to add a custom connector, your plan or organization may not allow it yet.
ChatGPT
- On chatgpt.com (a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Education account), open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
- Create a new app or connector named calories.food with the connector URL above, and choose OAuth when asked about authentication.
- Sign in with your email and the 6-digit code.
- In a chat, turn on calories.food, attach a food photo and say "log this". Approve the action when ChatGPT asks.
OpenAI supports Developer mode on the web, so this works in a browser, not reliably in the ChatGPT phone app. OpenAI also moves these settings from time to time; if a step doesn't match, search ChatGPT's help for "Developer mode". To log from your phone, use Claude.
Gemini
- On a computer, go to gemini.google.com and open Settings → Personal Intelligence → Connected Apps.
- Under Custom apps, choose Add a custom app and paste the connector URL above.
- Click Next. A sign-in page opens: enter your email, then the 6-digit code we send you.
- In a chat, type @ followed by the name you gave the app (for example @calories), then ask "how many calories did I have today?" or attach a food photo and say "log this".
US only for now. Google offers custom apps only in the US, in English, to people 18 or over signed in with a personal Google Account, with Keep Activity on. Outside the US, Gemini may let you connect calories.food and list its actions, but it won't use them. Custom apps can only be added on the web. See Google's help page.
Other apps
Any app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth can connect using the same URL. In Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http calories https://api.calories.food/mcp
In Gemini CLI, add this to ~/.gemini/settings.json, then run /mcp auth calories to sign in:
"mcpServers": { "calories": { "httpUrl": "https://api.calories.food/mcp" } }
Things to try
- "Log this as breakfast" with a photo
- "I had 2 idli and sambar"
- "Set my daily goal to 1,800 kcal and 120 g protein"
- "What have I eaten today? How much is left?"
- "How did this month compare to last month?"
- "That rice was more like 300 g, fix it"
