Privacy policy

calories.food ("we", "us") is a food log you add to AI apps such as Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini. This policy explains what we store, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it. In short: we store your email, the meals you log, and any body details you choose to add; we don't store photos, we don't run ads, and we don't sell your data.
What we collect

What we don't collect
- Photos. Your food photos go to your AI app, not to us. We only receive the text and numbers your AI sends when it logs a meal.
- Your chats. We don't see your conversations, only the tool calls your AI app makes to calories.food.
- Passwords (there aren't any), payment details, contacts or location.
Your AI app has its own privacy policy
When you use calories.food through Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or another app, that company processes your messages and photos under its own terms and privacy policy. They can read what calories.food returns to them, such as your daily totals, so they can answer you.
Health-related information
What you eat, your weight and your body measurements are sensitive, and we treat them as health information. We use them only to provide calories.food to you:
- to show your log, history and trends to you and to the AI apps you've connected;
- to calculate insights just for you, such as your estimated maintenance calories, targets and macros (including a maintenance figure learned from your own logged food and weight), streaks and averages.
These calculations run on our servers using fixed formulas; no AI model is involved and nobody reviews your data. The calorie and macro estimates are shown only in the calories.food app. We don't use any of this information for advertising, we don't sell or share it for marketing, and we don't use it to train AI models. The estimates are guidance, not medical advice.
Your consent
Because this can be health information, we ask for your explicit consent when you sign in, and we record when you gave it and to which version of this policy. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account (in the app under Settings → Delete account, or by emailing us), which removes all of this information.
Who else handles your data
We use Cloudflare to run the service: hosting, the database, storage for sign-in sessions, and sending sign-in emails. Cloudflare processes this data on our behalf. We don't share your data with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Where your data is stored
Cloudflare stores and processes your data in its data centres, which are located around the world, including outside Australia. By agreeing when you sign in, you consent to that. Cloudflare handles it only on our behalf and under its own security and privacy commitments.
How long we keep it
- Account and meals: until you delete them or your account.
- Sign-in codes: 15 minutes. Sign-in rate-limit counters (email and IP address): 1 hour.
- App sign-ins: access expires after 1 hour and is renewed automatically. An app unused for 30 days has to sign in again.
- Request logs: kept briefly for security and troubleshooting, then deleted automatically.
Your choices and rights
- See and change your data: ask your AI app ("what did I log today?") or use our app. You can edit or delete any meal, weight or measurement, and clear your body details in Settings.
- Disconnect an app: remove the connector in that app's settings.
- Sign out everywhere: in Settings, end every session on all devices and AI apps at once.
- Delete everything: in Settings → Delete account (confirmed with a code we email you), deleting your account removes your email, all meals, goals, body details, weights and measurements, and signs out every connected app. See how to delete your account.
- Get a copy: email us and we'll send your data in a machine-readable format.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights, such as to object to processing or to complain to a data protection authority. Email us to use any of them.
Security
All traffic uses HTTPS. Sign-in codes and tokens are stored only as hashes, and every request is checked so that an account can only reach its own data. No system is perfectly secure.
If something goes wrong: if we find that your information may have been accessed or disclosed without authorisation, we'll act straight away to contain it and assess the risk. If it's likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you by email as soon as we can, explain what happened and what you can do, and notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (and other regulators where required).
Children
calories.food isn't meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, email you.
